<p>Under the Supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the Youth Recreation Assistants will play an important role in creating fun, inclusive, and engaging recreation opportunities for children and youth throughout the fall and winter months. This position is ideal for someone between the ages of 15-19 years old who is energetic, creative, dependable, and passionate about helping young people stay active, build confidence, develop new skills, and have fun in a positive community environment.</p>

<p>Summary of Duties &amp; Responsibilities:</p>

<p><br></p>

<ul>

<li>Lead and support engaging evening recreation and youth sports programs</li>

<li>Create fun, inclusive activities that encourage healthy, active living and participation</li>

<li>Plan and deliver age-appropriate games, sports, activities, and recreational programs</li>

<li>Build positive relationships with children and youth while serving as a role model</li>

<li>Assist with planning and delivery of sports activities, cultural events, community gatherings and Social Services department initiatives</li>

<li>Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, and positive social interaction</li>

<li>Assist with program setup, clean up, equipment organizing, and maintaining safe spaces</li>

<li>Perform other recreation related duties as required</li>

<p><em>The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications.&nbsp; Candidates are encouraged to highlight their relevant skills, experience, education, volunteer work and community involvement. </em></p>

<ul>

<li>Excellent oral communication and writing skills</li>

<li>Good organizational and conflict resolution skills</li>

<li>Act as a positive role model and mentor for children</li>

<li>Willingness and ability to frequently perform active work inside and outdoors</li>

<li>Must have a fun, energetic, and outgoing personality</li>

<li>Reliable, responsible, patient, and able to work effectively as part of a team</li>

<li>Required to work evening and weekend shifts</li>
