Software Developer (Java & Angular) (BE-GM-APC-2026-151-GRAP)

<p>Drive the modernisation of CERN's Geodetic Metrology data management system, migrating legacy Oracle APEX/PL/SQL applications to a Java/Spring Boot and Angular platform, while leading the redesign of a mission-critical application for CERN's Accelerator Complex.</p><p><strong>Your responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Analyse Oracle APEX pages, processes and PL/SQL packages to understand business workflows and data dependencies.</li><li>Implement Spring Boot REST APIs and Angular Frontend.</li><li>Write automated tests and apply software quality practices.</li><li>Participate in the whole software development lifecycle (requirements, design, development, testing), following a modern agile approach to ensure high-quality outcomes.</li><li>Interact with the end-users of the services to understand their needs and help translate those into appropriate software solutions.</li><li>Build strong partnerships with IT and multidisciplinary teams across CERN to ensure the delivery of reliable, maintainable, and scalable software solutions aligned with current needs and future strategic goals.</li><li>This role includes team supervision responsibilities.</li></ul><p>More information <a href="https://be-dep-gm.web.cern.ch/" rel="noopener noreferrer">here</a>.</p><p><strong>Your profile</strong></p><ul><li>Proven experience in designing and developing software applications using Java technologies and modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks.</li><li>Practical experience with concurrent and multithreaded programming.</li><li>Experience applying software quality assurance practices and using related tools (code review, preparing tests, deliver high quality documentation, unit tests, clean code, sonarqube).</li><li>Experience in ICT systems architecture and design, including the design of scalable services and APIs.</li><li>Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated build, test, and deployment workflows.</li><li>Experience with cloud-native technologies, including Kubernetes.</li><li>Knowledge of Oracle APEX would be an asset.</li></ul><p><u>Skills</u></p><ul><li>Strong knowledge of the Spring framework ecosystem.</li><li>Strong knowledge of relational database systems, particularly Oracle Database, including proficiency in PL/SQL.</li><li>Ability to design reliable software services following SOLID principles or similar best practices.</li><li>Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) tools, methodologies, and procedures.</li><li>Ability to deliver high-quality work on time and meet expectations.</li><li>Contributes to a positive team environment through an optimistic and constructive attitude while proactively addressing issues.</li><li>Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.</li></ul><p><u>Eligibility criteria:</u></p><ul><li>You are a national of a <a href="https://home.cern/about/member-states" rel="noopener noreferrer">CERN Member or Associate Member State</a>.</li><li>You have a professional background in Software Engineering (or a related field) and have either:<ul><li>a <strong>Master's degree with 2 to 6 years</strong> of post-graduation professional experience;</li><li>or a <strong>PhD with no more than 3 years</strong> of post-graduation professional experience.</li></ul></li><li>You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.</li></ul>
