<p><em>We invite online applications from our sworn members for a position of one Traffic Officer. Note that traffic officers can be periodically assigned as Selective Traffic Enforcement and Education Program” (S.T.E.E.P) officers.&nbsp;</em></p>

<p><u>PURPOSE OF POSITION</u></p>

<p><br></p>

<p>Report directly to the NCO i/c Traffic Section and investigate fatal and serious injury motor vehicle collisions.&nbsp;&nbsp; Investigate collisions directly involving service vehicles that result in injuries.&nbsp; Investigate personal injury motor vehicle collisions resulting from suspect apprehension pursuits.&nbsp; Investigate or provide technical assistance all railway fatalities.&nbsp; </p>

<p>Traffic investigators will also follow up fail to remain MVC and perform general enforcement of the <em>Highway Traffic Act, </em>which may include assignment as a “Selective Traffic Enforcement and Education Program” (S.T.E.E.P) officer.</p>

<p><u>SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<br><br></u></p>

<ul>

<li>Ensure traffic incidents are dealt with in accordance with appropriate legislation and procedures</li>

<li>Investigate fatal and serious injury motor vehicle collisions</li>

<li>Railway accidents including technical assistance for vehicle related suicides</li>

<li>Ensure adherence to existing policies and acceptable standards.</li>

<li>General enforcement of the <em>Highway Traffic Act</em></li>

<li>Periodic assignments as a dedicated traffic enforcement officer “Selective Traffic Enforcement and Education Program” (S.T.E.E.P) by responding to complaints in safety zones, high collision areas, speeding, and other infractions of the <em>Highway Traffic Act of Ontario</em></li>

<li>Carry out duties in accordance with the applicable provisions of the <em>Community Safety and Policing Act</em>, and other lawful assignments</li>

<li>Be accountable to supervision</li>

<li>Perform such other duties as are lawfully assigned</li>

<p><u>Knowledge</u>&nbsp;</p>

<ul>

<li>Working knowledge of Policing Adequacy Standards Manual particularly in relation to traffic issues</li>

<li>Thorough understanding of relevant&nbsp;legislation&nbsp;</li>

<li>Thorough understanding and good working knowledge of the organizational structure, Routine Orders, Policy and Procedures, CALEA, and practices within the Service, as it pertains to duties performed</li>

</ul>

<p><u>Skills</u></p>

<ul>

<li>Strong oral and written communication skills</li>

<li>Computer literate in CAD, RMS, Niche, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint</li>

<li>Demonstrated communication</li>

<li>Time-management and organizational skills</li>

<li>Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of any assigned special vehicles</li>

</ul>

<ul>

<li>Ability to exercise good judgment and make good creative decisions</li>

<li>Must also be flexible, and tolerant</li>

<li>Ability to observe, retain and prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports and operate general office equipment</li>

<li>Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of comprehension and to handle the public with courtesy and authority</li>

<li>Must be capable of handling multi-tasks, produce work under strict and definitive deadlines</li>

<li>All other qualifications the position justifies</li>
