The opportunity

Love getting stuck into a product problem and turning it into something customers actually use? This could be your kind of role.

First Table is looking for a Product Manager who gets energy from making things happen. You’ll have the opportunity to influence a high-volume consumer marketplace, solve real problems for diners and restaurants, and see a clear connection between the decisions you make and the results they create.

We’re open to an experienced intermediate or Senior Product Manager. For us, it’s less about title and more about mindset: curious, commercially switched on, comfortable making decisions and excited to own the work all the way through.

About us

At First Table, our vision is simple: to be the first place diners go to book a table.

Proudly established in Queenstown, New Zealand - where our head office is based - we've been leading the charge in the hospitality tech industry for over a decade, with operations spanning New Zealand, Australia, and the UK.

First Table is a dining discovery platform that connects diners to restaurants through their love of food. Through our clever tech, we help restaurants get their night off to a great start and give diners a compelling reason to try somewhere new. It’s a win-win situation. From early bird offers to last table reservations, we make discovering and booking great dining experiences fast, easy, and rewarding.

At the heart of everything we do are our values: Win-Win-Win, Own It and Grow Together. These guide how we show up for each other, our restaurant partners, and our diners and they’re a big part of what makes First Table a great place to work.

About the role

As Product Manager, you’ll take ownership of a defined area of the First Table product, working with our product, design and engineering team to decide what we build, why it matters and how we know it worked.

You’ll report to our VP of Product & Engineering and have the freedom to get close to customers, dig into the data, challenge assumptions and make the calls that keep your product area moving forward.

What you’ll be doing

Take accountability for your product area, understand the metrics that matter and drive measurable improvements

Get to the heart of customer and business problems, frame them clearly and determine the best way forward.

Build a deep understanding of our diners and restaurant partners through first-hand customer insight and product behaviour.

Interrogate product data to spot opportunities, validate assumptions, prioritise work and measure impact.

Balance impact, effort, risk and timing. Be comfortable saying no, challenging requests and cutting scope when it leads to a better outcome.

Run a well-organised backlog, write clear requirements and work closely with design and engineering to resolve ambiguity and keep delivery moving.

Form hypotheses, run experiments and A/B tests where appropriate, measure the results and use what you learn to determine what happens next.

Keep stakeholders informed on decisions, progress, trade-offs and risks, with clear and direct communication.

Use AI across research, data interrogation, prototyping and writing to explore ideas, answer questions faster and improve how you work.

What we’re looking for

You’ve spent a meaningful part of your career in product and can show us what you’ve personally owned, shipped and improved.

Solid Product Management experience within a digital product environment.

Experience in a marketplace, ecommerce, B2C or high-volume consumer product business.

A track record of owning product problems end-to-end and delivering measurable outcomes.

Strong execution skills, comfortable turning ambiguity into clear priorities and shipped work.

Confidence using data and analytics to investigate problems, make decisions and measure impact.

Experience with experimentation and A/B testing, from hypothesis through to learning and action.

Strong prioritisation and the confidence to challenge, say no and cut scope when needed.

Enough technical understanding to work confidently with engineers and navigate trade-offs.

A hands-on, customer-focused mindset, with strong communication and practical use of AI in your everyday work.

Experience in a two-sided marketplace would be particularly valuable, as would exposure to growth, conversion optimisation, bookings, hospitality, travel or other transactional consumer products.

Why you'll love working with us

A high trust and flexible working environment: Hybrid from Auckland or Queenstown, you’ll be enabled to work the way that best suits you, in a high-trust, independent working environment.

Real product ownership: Own meaningful product problems from discovery through to delivery and measurement, with the autonomy to make decisions and see the impact of them.

Direct customer impact: Shape experiences used by diners and restaurants every day, with a clear connection between the decisions you make, what we ship and the experience our customers have.

Interesting marketplace challenges: Work across a two-sided marketplace with fascinating product challenges spanning diner behaviour, restaurant performance, conversion, bookings, growth and experimentation.

Work with an experienced team: Partner closely with an experienced product, design and engineering team while having the space and trust to own your area and make things happen.

AI-enabled ways of working: Be part of a team actively exploring how AI can shorten the distance between a question, an idea and a result — and help raise the standard for how we use it across the product cycle.

Shape the future: Have a genuine influence on how First Table’s product evolves as we continue to grow across multiple international markets.

Beloved consumer brand: Contribute to a product that diners and restaurants already love, making a visible difference across NZ, AU, and the UK.

Perks: Free First Table bookings, regular team recognition and social events, and the chance to work with a purpose-led, award-winning brand.
