<p>Position Summary:</p>
<p><br>The Dental Hygienist is a vital member of the dental team in a Federally Qualified Health Center – Look Alike<br>(FQHC-LAL) dental clinic, responsible for delivering preventive oral care, providing patient education, and<br>supporting the dentist in maintaining high standards of clinical care. This role ensures patients, especially<br>underserved and vulnerable populations, receive thorough, compassionate, and evidence-based hygiene<br>services.</p>
<p><br>Key Responsibilities:</p>
<p><br>• Perform oral prophylaxis (cleanings), including scaling and polishing teeth<br>• Conduct oral cancer screenings and periodontal assessments<br>• Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays)<br>• Educate patients on oral hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention<br>• Apply preventive materials such as fluoride varnish and sealants<br>• Document patient care and treatment plans accurately in the electronic dental record<br>• Sign and close charts in a timely manner<br>• Assist the dentist with patient care when necessary<br>• Maintain infection control protocols and ensure cleanliness of operatory and instruments<br>• Coordinate with the Dental Coordinator to ensure necessary hygiene supplies are available<br>• Adhere to all state dental hygiene laws and regulations<br>• If in the absence of a designated dental assistant, independently carry out room turnover, take x-rays, and<br>tend to hygiene patients.</p>
<p><br>Required Qualifications:</p>
<p><br>• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program<br>• Active state license to practice as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH)<br>• CPR/BLS certification<br>• Proficient in taking radiographs and using dental software<br>• Strong communication and interpersonal skills</p>
<p><br>Preferred Qualifications:</p>
<p><br>• Experience working in community health, pediatric, or multi-specialty dental settings<br>• Bilingual skills (Spanish, Arabic, Hmong, etc.) a plus<br>• Familiarity with Wisdom, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or other dental EHRs</p>
<p><br>Work Environment & Physical Requirements:</p>
<p><br>• Clinical setting with exposure to bodily fluids, sharp instruments, and dental equipment<br>• Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods<br>• Use of PPE required during patient care</p>
