<p><em>We invite online applications from our </em><em>sworn</em><em> members for one Constable position of </em><em>with our Core Engagement and Response Team (CERT).</em></p>

<p><u>PURPOSE OF POSITION</u></p>

<p>Reporting to&nbsp;the Sergeant i/c CERT Unit, the CERT officer&nbsp;will&nbsp;conduct the duties of a patrol officer, while utilizing a bicycle for transportation in patrolling, streets, alleys, parks, and other areas normally inaccessible to vehicular patrol units. This mode of patrol lends itself to providing a positive and effective police presence at special events and functions organized by community groups and to offering a directed patrol to problem and high crime areas within the downtown CERT patrol area.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Shall, in the performance of duties, respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human rights of all persons.</p>

<p><u>SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</u></p>

<ul>

<li>Initiate law enforcement action as necessary to maintain public order by patrolling&nbsp;and providing visual police presence, primary response to requests for police service within the CERT area, patrols being on foot, bicycle, or automobile</li>

<li>Provide a police resource to the downtown neighbourhood and the Emerging Entertainment District</li>

<li>Participate in various committees as required</li>

<li>Liaise with criminal enforcement units in generating intelligence, identifying problem areas and persons in the core</li>

<li>Conduct investigations, prepare warrants, execute warrants targeting illicit drug use and criminal activity in the core</li>

<li>Enforce provincial laws and conduct investigations at licensed establishments</li>

<li>Provide direction and work in conjunction with CERT Special Constables</li>

<li>Carry out duties in accordance with the applicable provisions of the <em>Community Safety and Policing Act SO 2019</em>., and other lawful assignments</li>

<li>Be accountable to supervision</li>

<li>Perform such other duties as are lawfully assigned</li>

<li>Thorough understanding and good working knowledge of the organizational structure, Routine Orders, Policy and Procedures, practices within the Service, as it pertains to duties performed</li>

<li>Knowledge of bicycle mechanics and safe bicycle riding practices</li>

</ul>

<li>Excellent oral and written communication skills</li>

<li>Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of any assigned special vehicles</li>

<li>Be creative in problem solving and a solution-oriented individual</li>

<li>Ability to observe, retain and prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports and operate general office equipment</li>

<li>Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of comprehension and to handle the public with courtesy and authority</li>

<li>Must be capable of handling multi-tasks, produce work under strict and definitive deadlines</li>

<li>Physically capable to perform the tasks of the position</li>

<li>All other qualifications the position justifies</li>
