About this role

<p><strong>Introduction</strong></p><p>High-temperature superconducting materials have interesting characteristics that make them suitable for future magnet applications. Come join CERN and take part in this exciting development.</p><p>As a mechanical technician, you will assemble models, prototypes and associated equipment within a research and development (R&amp;D) programme dedicated to the development of high-temperature superconducting magnets. You will contribute to the design, manufacture and assembly of superconducting coils, components and associated tooling.</p><p><strong>Functions</strong></p><ul><li>Produce high-temperature superconductor-based magnet coils.</li><li>Assemble superconducting magnet models, prototypes and associated manufacturing tools.</li><li>Manufacture and modify mechanical parts using conventional machining techniques, such as milling, turning and forming.</li><li>Manage component stocks for assigned assemblies, initiate and follow up manufacturing requests and purchase orders, and perform acceptance tests.</li><li>Prepare production and quality-control documentation, including procedures, test and measurement reports and component traceability.</li><li>Produce computer-aided design (CAD) drawings of components and tooling, starting from 3D models</li></ul>

<p>Technical certificate or general secondary education or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Mechanical Engineering or a related field.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Experience:</strong></p><ul><li>Hands-on experience in the mechanical manufacturing and assembly of electromechanical equipment, including conventional machining.</li><li>Experience preparing and using quality documentation, including procedures, test and measurement reports, and component traceability.</li><li>Experience reading mechanical drawings, including ISO-GPS dimensioning and tolerancing.</li><li>Previous experience with superconducting systems would be an asset.</li><li>Experience using mechanical CAD tools; specific experience with CATIA would be an asset.</li></ul><p><strong>Technical competencies:</strong></p><ul><li>Assembly of mechanical structures and equipment.</li><li>Knowledge and application of manufacturing methods and work preparation.</li><li>Manufacturing of mechanical parts.</li><li>Production of 2D drawings and 3D models.</li><li>Construction, test and installation of electromechanical equipment and systems.</li></ul><p><strong>Behavioural competencies:</strong></p><ul><li>Working in Teams: working well in groups and readily fitting into a team; participating fully and taking an active role in team activities.</li><li>Demonstrating Accountability: taking responsibility for own actions and decisions.</li><li>Demonstrating Flexibility: adapting quickly and resourcefully to shifting priorities and requirements.</li><li>Communicating Effectively: listening actively to others and letting others speak.</li><li>Solving Problems: producing workable and timely solutions that meet requirements.</li></ul><p><strong>Language skills:</strong></p><p>Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.</p>
