Mechanical Technician (TE-VSC-SCC-2026-188-LD)

<p><strong>Introduction:</strong></p><p>You will join a multidisciplinary team responsible for developing more efficient superconducting radiofrequency (SRF) cavities for future CERN accelerators. In this hands-on role, after dedicated training in the team you will contribute to the improvement of thin-film coating technologies through the design, fabrication, commissioning and operation of physical vapour deposition (PVD) equipment.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Functions:</strong></p><ul><li>Design mechanical components and coating equipment using 3D CAD tools and produce the associated manufacturing and assembly drawings.&nbsp;</li><li>Assemble, install, test, commission and operate physical vapour deposition coating systems and their associated equipment.&nbsp;</li><li>Manufacture and modify metallic and ceramic components using conventional machining and computer numerical control (CNC)-based manufacturing techniques.&nbsp;</li><li>Participate in coating activities, record operating parameters and document process procedures.&nbsp;</li><li>Procure mechanical components for thin-film coating systems.&nbsp;</li><li>Diagnose faults, carry out maintenance and implement mechanical improvements to existing coating systems.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Apply the relevant safe.</li></ul>

<ul><li>Technical certificate or general secondary education or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Mechanical Engineering or a related field.</li></ul><p><strong>Experience:</strong></p><ul><li>Experience in conventional and CNC machining operations, particularly milling and turning.&nbsp;</li><li>Experience using 3-dimensional computer-aided design 3D CAD software and interpreting technical drawings.&nbsp;</li><li>Experience in the assembly and testing of ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems would be an asset.&nbsp;</li><li>Basic knowledge of vacuum thin-film coating techniques would be an asset.&nbsp;</li></ul><p><strong>Technical competencies:</strong></p><ul><li>Assembly of mechanical structures and equipment.</li><li>Manufacturing of mechanical parts.</li><li>Installation and commissioning of vacuum systems.</li><li>Production and analysis of thin-film coatings.</li><li>Production of 2D drawings and 3D models.</li></ul><p><strong>Behavioural competencies:</strong></p><ul><li>Working in Teams: working well in groups and readily fitting into a team; participating fully and taking an active role in team activities.</li><li>Solving Problems: identifying, defining and assessing problems, taking action to address them.</li><li>Managing Self: working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting.</li><li>Achieving Results: objectively assessing and monitoring own work; regularly reporting on progress and advising of any changes in schedule or priorities.</li><li>Communicating Effectively: expressing opinions, ideas and suggestions with conviction and in a logical/structured manner; keeping to the point.</li></ul><p><strong>Language skills:</strong></p><ul><li>Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.</li></ul>
